You train during the morning session, take the BTS into the city to explore shops or temples, and return all before afternoon training begins! Here are some activities you might be interested in during your stay at Master Toddy’s Muay Thai gym, Bangkok:

 

    1. Shopping:There are major shopping complexes at Siam BTS Station – MBK and Siam Paragon are multi-level shopping complexes. The Imperial Big C is the closest shopping centre – it has a KFC, McDonalds, Arcade, computer shops, clothes and souvenirs stores. The Central World shopping centre at Bang Na is about a 40 baht motorbike taxi ride away, but has more up market stores, an English movie theater, and carries more western product lines. ‘Panthip’ is a major IT complex in Bangkok if you are looking for software or computer parts – take the BTS to Siam and get a taxi to Panthip.

 

    1. Markets: Chatuchak weekend market is open on Saturdays and Sundays, 09:00 – 18:00, and Fridays 18:00 – 24:00. It is the largest market in Bangkok. Hop on the BTS to Mo Chit station, take exit no. 1 and follow the crowd until you see rows of canvas stalls selling clothes. Turn right while continuing to follow the crowd and you will see a small entrance that leads into the market (clothing section).

 

    1. Swimming: There is a local pool complex shown on the map below. There is also a waterpark on the top floor of Central World at Bang Na, with waterslides.

 

    1. Temples:The best times to visit the temples are in the early morning before the crowds arrive. Please remember that temples are sacred places and you have to dress appropriately otherwise you won’t be allowed in – this means long pants / skirts – nothing shorter than ankle length for both men & women, and no singlet’s – t-shirts are OK, but nothing with low neck lines exposing the shoulders, back or chest. The best temples are located in the center of the city. Most notable are:
      1. Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) – Inside the grounds of the Grand Palace;
      2. Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) – On the bank of the Chao Phraya River; and,
      3. Wat Pho (Temple of Reclining Buddha) – Behind Wat Phra Kaew.

 

    1. Ice Skating / Ping Pong / Bowling / Karaoke / Arcade Games: There is an ice skating rink and Ping Pong table center located on the top floor of Imperial Samrong. Bowling alleys, Karaoke & Arcades are at Imperial, Central World and MBK.

 

    1. Tours:You can hire the minibus from the gym with a driver for 2000B a day, plus petrol, and he will take you anywhere in Bangkok. Otherwise, you can find many tour companies on Khao San Road that run daily tours around Bangkok. Some major attractions include:
      1. Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm – the largest in the world;
      2. Samut Prakan Ancient City;
      3. Damnoen Saduak Floating Market – situated 110 kms west of Bangkok.

 

    1. Muay Thai Live:You can see muay thai fights at the major stadiums around Bangkok.

      2. Sanam Muay Rangsit 336/932 Prachathipat Road, Rangsit, Pathumthani. Fight Nights: Wednesdays & Thursdays from 8.30 p.m. Ticket Prices: 110 (women only), 220 Baht Men.
      3. Sanam Muay Samrong Samrong Road, Samutprakarn. Fight Nights: Fridays and Sundays, from 8.30 p.m Ticket Prices: 100 Baht for women, 200 Baht for men.
      4. Sanam Muay Omnoy 74 Moo 12 Tumbon Omnoy, Amphoe Krathumbaen, Samutsakorn Fight Schedule: Saturdays from 11.45 a.m. Tickets: 200 Baht.
      5. International Stadium, Chachoengsao 23/22 Moo 6 Thepkunakorn Road, Tumbon Sothorn, Amphoe Muang, Chachoengsao. Fight Schedule: Sundays, from 4.00 p.m. Tickets: 200 Baht
      6. Bangkok Boxing Stadium 100 Tiamruammit Rd., Huaykwang, Bangkok, Thailand 10320 This is muaythai for tourists, Las Vegas style.
      7. Lumpini Stadium, Rama IV Road, Bangkok. Fight Nights: Tuesdays and Fridays from 6.30 p.m, Saturday afternoons 5-8 p.m., Saturday nights 8.30 p.m. Ticket prices: 500, 1000 & 1,500 Baht (ringside).
      8. Ratchadamnoen Stadium, Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue, Fight Nights: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Sundays, starting at 6.30 p.m. Ticket Prices: 500, 1000, 1500 Baht (ringside); special discount on Sunday nights.

 

    1. Muay Thai on TV: You can watch muay thai on your TV on the following stations:
      1. Channel 3 every Saturday morning from 11:30-1:30
      2. Channel 9 every Sunday starting from about 1:45-3:45
      3. Channel 7 every Sunday starting from 1:40/1:45-3:40/3:45
      4. Occasionally, big boxing shows from the major stadiums will be aired on Channel 5 on Saturday nights from 10:00-midnight.

 

  1. Bars & Nightlife:Bangkok has a few vibrant nightlife districts, with clubs and bars. The most popular with foreigners are Sukhumvit, Khao San Road, and Ratchada & RCA. Khao San Road is proably the most noted and easy to navigate – just one long street packed with tourists, bars, clubs, hotels & guesthouses & shops.
