The night of the Rising stars 30!
- The Cobra night

Joseph Judah, Master Toddy, John Corcoran (editor of ma success) Sergio Lopez, Zab Judah, Jason Andrada, Ron Johnson, Master toddy JR and Kevin Ross

Saturday the 24th of October, Rising Star event turned out to be a fantastic night with ten exciting and high quality fights and with the most beautiful final cobra show from our Jason Andrada. The gym was crowded with people who came from all over the country and showed their support. The event also had World boxing Champions, Zab “Super” Judah and Ron “the American dream” Johnson that came and enjoyed a night of high class fights with a lot of action!

We had 3 fighters from Ultra Fight Gym that did their debut in the ring this Saturday, Chris Widlowski, Cody Monsalve and Arnold Polanco. They did brilliant, showing their strength and strong hearts in the ring! Arnold fought against Michael Mendez out of Las Vegas Boe boxing who also had his first fight at this event. Michael Mendes had a few pounds on Arnold but still, Arnold dominated the two first rounds with awesome knees! Michael came back strong and gave Arnold some hard landing punches in the face. It was a hard fight to score but according to the judges, they gave it a questionable draw. Arnold is looking for a possible rematch in December in the next rising stars event.

Chris is also looking forward to have a re match in December against his opponent Carlos Figueroa from excel gym. Their fight was close, even though Chris landed more clean shots, the judges had a more aggressive Carlos as a winner after 3 rounds. Chirs is now training hard for a re match in December.

Our trainer Cindy took her fight against Las Vegas Excel strong fighter Maria Bernardo. Cindy proved to be a fantastic, skilled fighter even in such short notice! At the weigh in, Maria was a few pounds heavier then Cindy, but Cindy showed brilliant technique and landed many clean punches that affected Maria’s performance. Maria was strong and moved forward pressuring Cindy in all 3 rounds and came out as the strongest one in the end, according to the judges. In the next Rising Stars event, we will have a re-match against Maria and Cindy where they will battle over a Championship Belt! Cindy is now training hard for this fight and will definitely be prepared for Maria’s aggressive game!

Cindy VS Maria Bernardo

The main fight of the night was our very own Jason Andrada against Sergio Lopez from San Diego. Jason entered the ring with a lot of confidence and support from his fans, facing a more experience fighter Sergio with a record of 28 fights and 24 wins. This would be Jasons 4th time fighting Sergio.
First round they both came out aggressive and Sergio gave Jason some hard kicks, but nothing really did any damage. Jason kept on pushing forward and not far into the first round Jason landed a perfect overhand right and KO d Sergio down to the canvas. It was the perfect final fight and all the people were standing up cheering for Jason. Now its time for Jason, with two KO s in a row, to face Thailand and the world cup in November. We all wish him the best of luck!

Rising Star

Where did well known fighters like Kevin Ross, Kit Cope, and Gina Carano get their start? They started their careers with Master Toddy’s Rising Star fights which Master Toddy started himself in 1994. Before his visit to England in 1975, Muay Thai had no existence. He made a system to create qualified instructors, and open their own gyms. The closest event to amateurs was smokers; unsanctioned events that often got shut down because of no permit. Master Toddy wanted to start his own amateur Muay Thai events with a permit for sanctioned fights with insurance, paramedics and a doctor on site, and the commission present for safe fights. With an atmosphere much like the professional events, many people bought tickets and filled seats.
These events are carefully matched up according to weight, size, age, experience, and fight record.
Class A: No Shinpads, No headgear. 10oz Gloves. 5 rounds.
                        (Same as Pros)
Class B: Shinpads. Open face headgear. 16 oz. Gloves,
                18oz. for Heavyweight. 4 rounds.

Class C: Shinpads. Full face headgear. 16 oz. Gloves,
18 oz for heavyweight. 3 rounds.
Class D: Shinpads. Thighpads. Belly Guard. No contact to
                Face. 16oz Gloves. 18oz. Heavyweight.

Rising Star is a great attraction for other gyms and spectators to come enjoy. In running a successful gym, it needs to stay active with programs right for your student. When students from other gyms come to see our Rising Star, or any other fights, it encourages them and let’s them know they could do the same thing too. For spectators, it’s a great night out to watch some live fights. Not only are fights entertaining but it’s far more exciting to see beginners and amateurs fighting because of their will to win.

Ben Garcia and Kit Cope were some of Master Toddy’s first fighters in Rising Star in 1994. Became world champions as soon as two years after.

Gina Carano, the face of women’s MMA had her first fight in a Rising Star Event in 2005, along with world champion Lisa King.

Many UFC stars had their first fights in Rising Star Events.

Kevin Ross did his first Rising Star 5 years ago, and is now a WBC World Champion.
